KEEP ARKANSAS BEAUTIFUL COMMISSION
Job Description – Commissioners
The mission and attendance requirements for the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission are set forth in the bylaws. Each commissioner, by accepting an appointment from the Governor to serve, agrees to actively support this and to arrange his or her schedule to comply with the attendance requirements as adopted in the bylaws. This appointment carries with it a much greater responsibility for learning about the programs and mission of KArB than if one were simply a volunteer supporter. A commissioner must be knowledgeable and conversant in all areas of our endeavor and be willing to actively promote participation in these events and programs amongst the people of Arkansas.
Further:
1.
The KarB Commission holds regularly scheduled meetings, of two to four
hour duration monthly, except December, in Little Rock and around the
state. It presents an Annual Statewide
Affiliate Conference in February and members customarily attend the annual Governor’s
Conference on Tourism in March.
Commissioners will actively support these activities, and regular
meetings will be coordinated with these dates.
2.
The KarB Commission sponsors KEEP ARKANSAS BEAUTIFUL MONTH each
April. An Awards Luncheon honoring outstanding
projects which carry out the mission of KarB is held during this period. The Great Arkansas Cleanup is a major program
in the fall. Commissioners will actively
support these statewide activities.
3.
Each commissioner will accept the duty to act as a liaison between the
Commission and the citizens within the geographic area she or he
represents. While commissioners are
appointed from a full congressional district, the Commission will determine the
actual area within that district for which each member will be directly
responsible.
4.
Area related duties will include such activities as representing KarB
at events, encouraging communities to become KarB affiliates, conducting area
meetings of local affiliate representatives to facilitate networking amongst
our chapters and provide two-way communication with the Commission.
The
Commission is an active, working body that relies on committees to undertake
the planning and direction of events and the formulation of policy. Accordingly, Commissioners are expected to,
and must agree to, actively participate in committee work as assigned by the
Commission Chairman.
The
Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission Administrative Office has three staff
positions which are charged with the execution of policies and activities;
however, commissioners cannot delegate responsibility for the overall success
of the mission.
